Mayfair Apartment, London

Internal Area 321 m2 3,459 ft2

The owner of this fine Mayfair apartment commissioned Intarya to create a sophisticated and distinctive interior which would appeal to high profile individuals in the prime rental market.

The Drawing Room contained listed timber panelling with beautifully carved details, which was used as the foundation of the scheme. We drew inspiration from the shapes and motifs of 17th and 18th Century furniture, re-invented through the use of contemporary finishes and fabrics such as linens, silks, damasks and brocades, in a monochromatic palette. This eclectic mix created a refreshing contrast to the rich timber panelling. The chandeliers, art and accessories added to the sense
of opulence.

The proportions of the Master Bedroom were enhanced by upholstering the walls with an over-scaled silk damask. We ensured
that the pattern on the wall was perfectly aligned with that of the headboard, creating the impression that the bed merged into the walls, maximising the sense of space. Similarly, the tailor-made oak furniture was hand-painted and softly silvered to tone exactly to the walls.

For the second bedroom, we created a free-standing screen upholstered with an exquisite hand-embroidered silk. Bespoke mirrored furniture reflected the faux shagreen walls. Elements of the 17th Century theme subtly continue through to the third bedroom with the studding detail on the shaped headboards and the linen crewel work on the
bed bolsters.
