Kensington Mews House, London
Internal Area 104 m2 1,130 ft2This pretty Mews house sits on a leafy secluded square in the heart of Kensington. It had been untouched for many years and was somewhat forlorn. The new owner commissioned Intarya to provide interior architecture and design throughout the property with a view to future sale. The brief was to maximise the property’s proportions and create impact, primarily to add value.
The space and flow was meticulously and creatively planned, maximising every opportunity for physical and visual expansion. A new basement level was created to provide a flexible space, ideal as media den or home office, with extensive storage. A well-proportioned open-plan space was formed on the ground floor with seamless flow from living to dining and out to the private terrace. The first floor is devoted to the Master Suite with two additional bedrooms and a second bathroom on the floor above. The resulting layout is both functional and aesthetic.
Close attention was paid to each individual detail: internal doors reach up to the ceiling, elongating the proportions while mirrored architraves reflect light. Mirror and glass were used inventively to amplify space. Built-in joinery and 1950’s inspired, tailor-made and aptly scaled furniture merge with the soft and elegant colour palette to create a calm, sublime home.
The client’s initial investment was more than doubled through the subsequent sale.
